BEIJING, Nov. 26 -- The helicopter-carrying amphibious assault ship Hainan (Hull 31) attached to Chinese PLA Navy held open ship day activities in Hong Kong on the weekend. Thousands of HongKong and Macau citizens came to visit the 36,000-tonne warship.
"It feels bigger than I imagined because I thought it was about the size of a large luxury cruise warship. But it doesn't look like what I imagined. Even my wide-angle lens can't cover it all," a visitor said.
"It's a great opportunity," he continued. "While citizens can see on TV or in textbooks about what equipment the country's military has or how powerful it is, seeing it in practice is more convincing than reading in textbooks."
