BEIJING, May 8 -- The task group of aircraft carrier Shandong has recently returned to its homeport after wrapping up a month-long far sea combat-readiness drill in waters and airspace to the east of the Taiwan Island.
The drill marked the first systematic, large-scale voyage of the task group in the West Pacific waters, during which it participated in the combat-readiness security patrol encircling the Taiwan Island and the Joint Sword exercise, while simultaneously carrying out operational duty and training drills, as well as joint exercises with troops of the PLA Rocket Force, land-based aviation force, and other surface combat units beyond the island chain.
The aircraft carrier task group has practiced multiple actual-combat training drills on joint submarine search and attack, joint firepower strike and control of regional air command, coordinated with corresponding sea and air forces, and honed the troops’ command and dispatch capability, as well as their combat tactics.
Faced with repeated close-in reconnaissance by foreign warships and aircraft, the task group accurately grasped the situation in a timely manner and made proper responses with accuracy and efficiency.
