Troops assigned to the Chinese PAP Hainan Corps clear the road blockages as Typhoon Kajiki lashes Sanya City in south China's Hainan Province.
SANYA, China, Aug. 26 -- Since August 24, under the impact of Typhoon Kajiki, several areas in south China's Hainan Province have been hit by heavy rainfall, causing multiple incidents such as fallen trees and blocked roads. To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, the troops assigned to the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP), as well as militiamen, devoted themselves to the emergency rescue tasks.
On August 25, the Hainan Provincial Military Command dispatched more than 2,200 troops and over 5,830 militiamen to the frontline of emergency rescue, together with over 300 vehicles, 60 rubber boats, and 400 gas chainsaws. The Chinese PAP Hainan Corps dispatched more than 1,200 troops and over 3,000 sets of equipment to carry out the disaster relief operations.
Sanya City was severely impacted by the disaster. Storm surges and geological disasters struck some areas, flattening a large number of trees on main roads and disrupting some power and communication networks. To restore the traffic, the troops cleared the roads, and carried out road repair, people evacuation, barrier clearance, and flood drainage.
Up to now, the troops are still engaged in the emergency rescue, disaster relief, risk elimination, and other tasks.
