BEIJING, Jan. 2 -- Recently, the first batch of the 4th Chinese Peacekeeping Military Utility Helicopter Unit to United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) returned to China by a chartered flight after completing the one-year peacekeeping mission.
The 4th Chinese Peacekeeping Military Utility Helicopter Unit to UNISFA, mainly composed of members from a brigade under the PLA 83rd Group Army, was deployed to the mission area in Abyei in late November 2023.
The helicopter unit mainly undertakes force projection, material transportation, air patrol and other service support tasks. Over the past year, it has covered a total flight distance of 442,000 kilometers in over 2,600 flight hours, completing transportation for more than 17,000 passengers and more than 930 tons of materials of all kinds. The unit was honored as an indispensable force in the mission area by Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Deputy Force Commander of UNISFA.
During the mission, the unit has donated several hundred pieces of rainy season disaster relief supplies including rain boots, raincoats and flashlights to the local people, provided more than 1,800 boxes of medicines of 20 types for Nuer refugees, and presented more than 600 stationery and sporting goods for local primary schools, winning high praise from the UNISFA senior leadership and local people.
According to the plan, the second batch of the 4th Chinese Peacekeeping Military Utility Helicopter Unit to UNISFA will return to China in early January, 2025.
