HANOI, Dec. 31 -- A Chinese naval taskforce composed of the guided-missile destroyer Changsha (Hull 173) and the amphibious dock landing ship Jinggangshan (Hull 999) made a technical stop at Da Nang in Vietnam on December 28, local time. More than 100 people, including the Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, Chinese Defense Attaché to Vietnam, staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Da Nang, Vietnamese naval sailors and representatives of overseas Chinese, held a welcome ceremony at the dock.
At around 8:00 a.m., a Vietnamese naval ship arrived at the rendezvous point as scheduled and guided the Chinese naval taskforce into the Da Nang port area. After docking, staff of the Vietnamese side presented flowers to the commander of the Chinese naval taskforce. The deputy chief of staff of Vietnam's Naval Region 3, presided over the welcome ceremony.
It is learned that during the technical stop, commanders of the Chinese naval taskforce paid courtesy calls to the leaders of Vietnam's Naval Region 3. Members of the Chinese naval taskforce held friendly football matches, tug-of-war games and other cultural and sports exchange activities with their Vietnamese counterparts. Sailors of the two navies also made cross-deck visits.
