Chinese and Cambodian military doctors perform Cambodia's first robot-assisted cerebral hemorrhage surgery.
PHNOM PENH, May 20 -- Recently, the 19th medical expert team of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to Cambodia successfully performed Cambodia's first robot-assisted cerebral hemorrhage surgery at the PreahKet Mealea Hospital, the general hospital of Royal Cambodian Army.
The patient was a Chinese citizen who had suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage while working in Cambodia. The Chinese medical expert team conducted remote consultation with the Second Affiliated Hospital of the PLA Naval Medical University and jointly worked out a robot-assisted surgical scheme .
Considering the lack of corresponding medical conditions in the local area, the neurosurgery team of the Second Affiliated Hospital of the PLA Naval Medical University quickly coordinated the transport of the robotic equipment from China to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. With the real-time remote guidance of experts in China and the close cooperation of the neurosurgery team of Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, the Chinese medical expert team to Cambodia successfully performed the operation.
"The robot-assisted surgery under remote guidance not only significantly reduces the patient's postoperative recovery time and risk of complications, but also enables the Cambodian medical team to obtain technical support from top Chinese experts," said the director of the Neurosurgery Department of Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, adding that both the remote guidance and the robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery are innovations in the hospital's history.
It is reported that the four experts of the 19th medical expert team of the PLA to Cambodia are all from the Second Affiliated Hospital of the PLA Naval Medical University. According to the needs of the Cambodian side, the members of the expert team include experts in neurosurgery, interventional diagnosis and treatment, orthopedics, and radiological diagnosis.
