BEIJING, April. 12 -- "Recently, the war in northern Myanmar has seriously threatened the security and stability of the China-Myanmar border areas and the safety of lives and property of the people on both sides. As a friendly neighbor of Myanmar, China has been closely following the current situation in northern Myanmar and urges all parties to immediately cease fire and stop fighting, so as to ease tensions as soon as possible," said Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian at a regular press briefing on Friday.
It is reported that the Chinese military recently held a live-fire military exercise along the China-Myanmar border. Some foreign media analyzed that the move could be regarded as a message to the Myanmar military and armed groups to abide by the truce, and a way to stop the conflict from spilling over the border.
When being asked to comment on such analysis, the spokesperson introduced that the Chinese PLA Southern Theater Command recently organized its army and air force units to hold a joint live-fire exercise on the Chinese side of the China-Myanmar border, according to its annual training plan. The exercise aimed to test the rapid mobility, precise destruction, three-dimensional blockade and control, and joint strike capabilities of the troops, so as to prepare for all kinds of emergencies at any time, noted the spokesperson.
"China's exercise demonstrated its troops' determination, will, and capability to fulfill missions and win battles," said the spokesperson, adding that the Chinese military will always be on high alert and continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, border stability, and safety of people's lives and property.
