BEIJING, Nov. 24 -- Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, force commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), recently visited the 13th Chinese peacekeeping horizontal engineering company to UNMISS in Wau at the end of the contingent's mission period, and granted the Force Commander Award to the Chinese peacekeepers, in recognition of their outstanding mission performance and contributions to promoting the peace process over the past year. Lt. Gen. Subramanian also unveiled the plaque for the completion of the peace post at Wau Base afterward.
Since its deployment in December last year, the Chinese engineering contingent has undertaken authorized tasks, including repairing local main roads, maintenance of life support facilities, and humanitarian assistance in the mission area. It has repaired more than 220 km of roads and completed over 160 construction tasks in total.
