KINSHASA, Oct. 7 -- UN Assistant Secretary-General Christian Saunders inspected the 27th Chinese peacekeeping engineering company and Level-2 hospital to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Bukavu, the capital city of South Kivu province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on the evening of October 2.
Saunders inspected the Chinese level-II hospital and the camp of the engineering company successively, during which he was briefed on the arrangements of treatment, hospitalization, pharmacy and living areas in the hospital, and received the working report in the engineering company.
Saunders praised the expertise shown by the medical contingent and spoke highly of its members. He commented that Chinese peacekeepers have established good relations with the local people, and made their contribution to the peace process of the DRC.
He gave the evaluation after the inspection, saying that Chinese peacekeeping force is prudent and responsible while dealing with routine tasks and emergency incidents. As to risk management, Chinese peacekeepers can always ensure to minimize the risk to zero.
Next, Chinese engineering and medical contingents will seek to improve their support capabilities comprehensively and accomplish the tasks assigned by the UN to higher standard.
