BEIJING, Aug. 14 -- The cooperation between the Chinese and Russian militaries is "completely different from the practices of some other countries that cling to the Cold War mentality, engage in camp confrontation and bully hegemony everywhere", rebutted Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, when asked to comment on some voices against the recent third China-Russia joint maritime patrol, at a press briefing on Monday.
It is reported that during the Chinese and Russian navies' third joint maritime patrol, the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) dispatched ships and aircraft to track and monitor. Moreover, the chairman of the US House Armed Services Committee stated that the Chinese and Russian joint naval patrol near Alaska a few days before was meant to intimidate the United States.
Spokesperson Wu expressed that naval vessels of Chinese and Russian militaries have recently conducted joint maritime patrol in relevant waters of the western and northern Pacific Ocean based on the annual cooperation plan between the two militaries. "This action was not targeted at any third party and had nothing to do with the current international and regional situation. During the event, the naval vessels of both countries strictly abided by the international law and always remained in international waters," he reiterated.
Spokesperson Wu also slammed Japan's close-range tracking and surveillance, saying that it was very dangerous, which could easily lead to cause misunderstanding, misjudgment and accidents at sea and in the air. He urges Japan to stop such meaningless disturbances and irresponsible words and deeds that affect the healthy development of China-Japan relations and undermine regional peace and stability.
Unlike some other countries' clinging to the Cold War mentality, engaging in camp confrontation and hegemony everywhere, the cooperation between the Chinese and Russian militaries is open and transparent, and aims to jointly defend international fairness and justice and maintain world and regional security and stability, added the spokesperson.
