BEIJING, Feb. 20 -- Twenty-six electoral units of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the People’s Armed Police (PAP) Force recently elected 281 deputies to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC).
The election work has been carried out since October 2022. In this general election, 358 candidates were nominated, 27.4% more compared to the actual deputies to be elected. Among them, 281 candidates were finally elected, including 93 grass-roots service members and professional technical officers, accounting for 33.1% and 3.5 percentage points higher than the previous term. There are 39 female deputies, accounting for 13.9% of the total and 2.3 percentage points higher than the previous term, and 17 ethnic minority deputies. And, there are 267 deputies with college degrees or above, accounting for 95% of the total, among which 140 deputies have graduate degree, accounting for 49.8%.
All the military deputies are members of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with 161 having received second-class merit citations or higher-level awards.
