BEIJING, Dec. 2 -- "The US's behavior seriously harms China's sovereignty and security interests, undermines the two militaries' relations, and endangers peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," said Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian on Monday, when answering the media inquiry regarding the US arms sales to Taiwan.
It is reported that the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency recently announced the approval of an arms sales plan roughly worth USD 385 million to China's Taiwan Region.
The Chinese defense spokesperson first pointed out that the arms sales by the United States to China's Taiwan region seriously violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, especially the provisions of the August 17 communiqué. "We are strongly dissatisfied with and firm opposed to this and have lodged solemn representations with the US," added the spokesperson.
The spokesperson noted that the US has been notorious for its arms sales to Taiwan. The US talks about maintaining peace and promoting stability, but what it is actually doing is interfering in internal affairs and undermining peace, which has been seen by the international community for a long time.
On the other hand, the spokesperson stressed that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, driven by its "Taiwan independence" nature, sacrifice the security and well-being of Taiwan people by using their hard-earned money to pay for the "protection" from the US, in an attempt to seek Taiwan independence by relying on the US or by military means, which can only be a moth to the fire and lead to self-destruction.
The spokesperson further pointed out that the Taiwan question is the core of China's core interests, the foundation of political foundation for China-US relations and the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations .
The spokesperson urged the US side to concretely fulfill its commitment of not supporting "Taiwan independence", stop arming Taiwan in any form and take firm actions to maintain the relations between the two countries and two militaries.
"The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will keep on strengthening war-preparedness training and resolutely foil any separatist attempts to seek "Taiwan independence" and interference by external forces," stressed the spokesperson.
