BEIJING, May 30 -- "The Chinese side always adopts a prudent and responsible attitude towards export of military products, and strictly manages export of dual-use articles," said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference on Thursday.
According to the media, UK Defense Secretary recently said that the deepening relations between China and Russia as the West struggles to arm Ukraine pose a "threat" to the West. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also expressed that the US had not seen China sending actual weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine, but China is providing overwhelming support to Russia's defense industrial base.
"Remarks made by the UK politician reflect nothing but the Cold-War mentality with the attempt to instigate confrontation," Spokesperson Wu pointed out, adding that China and Russia uphold the principles of non-alliance, non-confrontation and not targeting any third party, and have forged a new paradigm of major-country relations that differs entirely from the Cold War approach. The sound and stable development of China-Russia relationship not only serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, but also contributes to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
As for the accusations from the US side, the spokesperson expressed firm opposition. He made it clear that the Chinese side always adopts a prudent and responsible attitude towards export of military products, strictly manages export of dual-use articles, and does not deliberately protract wars for profiteering like the US.
To further disprove the remarks by US politician, Spokesperson Wu also provided statistics that more than 60% of Russia's exported weapon components and dual-use items come from western countries.
He analyzed that the US side, on the one hand, provided military aid to Ukraine at an unprecedented level, and on the other hand, made baseless accusations against normal economic and trade activities between China and Russia. "This is typical double standard and is extremely hypocritical and irresponsible," stressed Wu.
