In addition to the famous Chinese female basketball player and coach in the Military Sports Training Center under the Training and Administration Department of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), Miao Lijie has a new title in 2023, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
In 2020, when the professional sports units in Chinese military faced adjustment and reform, local basketball clubs proposed generous offers to Miao. However, she resolutely made the decision to stay in the military.
"Basketball has been quite popular in the military camp, and having a basketball game to their hearts' content has been a common way for many officers and soldiers to relax in their spare time," she introduced. During visits to some border troops, Miao was impressed by the service members' passion over basketball, which also triggered her thinking on how to help the grass-roots service members improving their physical capability through scientific training.
Over the past two years, Miao Lijie has conducted related training instructions in more than 40 division and regiment units under the PLA Army, PLA Rocket Force, and PLA Strategic Support Force. Giving full play to her professional advantages in basketball, she has guided the service members in multiple aspects including scientific training, tactics application, and mental adjustment, and stimulated their enthusiasm to participate in military sports training.
At the same time, she has created training methods specific to different types of units, different physical conditions and different age groups, while introducing the refined and scientific management methods of professional basketball training into the training of basic and combat physical fitness. As the result she has helped multiple front-line troops realize scientific and standardized military sports training.
As a newly elected member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Miao Lijie has brought proposals such as "professional sports talents serving grassroots service members in a regular manner" and "refined and order-oriented services for service members in military sports training" to the ongoing conference, hoping to play a better role of military sports scientific research in guiding military sports training.
