BEIJING, Aug. 28 (ChinaMil) -- Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), confirmed on August 25 that General Li Zuocheng, member of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) and chief of the Joint Staff Department under the CMC, would lead a delegation to visit Russia on August 26 at the invitation of General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the first Deputy Defense Minister of Russia.
During his visit, General Li would also attend the fifth meeting of the joint chiefs of staff of the armed forces of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states and inspect the "Peace Mission 2018" joint anti-terrorism military exercise together with other chiefs of general staff of SCO countries.
With regards to the purpose and specific arrangements of General Li’s trip, Ren said that China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination continues to develop at a high level at present, and the relations between Chinese and Russian militaries are at all-time high.
The fifth meeting of joint chiefs of staff and the "Peace Mission 2018" joint anti-terrorism military exercise are important activities in the field of security and defense cooperation for the SCO this year. China is willing to make joint efforts with all member states to deepen the security and defense cooperation of the SCO, jointly fight against the "three evil forces" of terrorism, extremism and separatism, and play an active role in maintaining peace and stability in this region, Ren added.
