BEIJING, June 4 (ChinaMil) -- A training course for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping officers in Francophone Africa, financed by the China-UN Peace and Development Fund and jointly hosted by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Peacekeeping Affairs Office under China's Defense Ministry, was held at the Peacekeeping Training Center of China's Ministry of National Defense from May 21 to June 1.
Six instructors from China, France, Niger, Morocco, Switzerland and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations gave lectures to twenty-seven officers from China and fifteen troop-contributing countries in Francophone Africa.
The training course is an important measure for the UN to establish a global peacekeeping training system and enhance the overall level of peacekeeping training. It is also a major channel to realize international resource integration and strengthen the capacity of peacekeeping instructors.
The content of the course is mainly based on the UN newly revised standard peacekeeping training curriculum, which covers 45 topics such as the organizational structure of the peacekeeping mission, the standards of conduct for peacekeeping personnel, the protection of civilians, military-civilian cooperation, military planning processes and so forth.
After attending lectures given by the instructors, each participating officer was required to make a trial lecture and the instructors would offer their comments.
