BEIJING, Jan. 10 -- On January 10, General He Weidong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), met in Beijing with newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) from the military. He stressed that academicians from the military should take the lead for combat readiness, and pioneer scientific and technological innovation.
General He Weidong stated that academicians from the military should seek breakthroughs in innovation, insist on actual-combat orientation and cost-effective innovation, and strive to seize the commanding heights of the scientific and technological competition and accelerate the effective supply of advanced combat power. They should also be adept at fostering high-level scientific and technological innovation talents, and carry out scientific study and research with a down-to-earth and persistent refining approach.
General He Weidong stressed that the competent CMC organs should provide them with support in work and care in life to motivate them to make contributions to the cause of building a strong military.
Admiral Miao Hua, member of the CMC and director of the CMC's Political Work Department, also attended the meeting.
