HONG KONG, Nov. 19 (ChinaMil) - The Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) held Open Day for public at San Wai Barracks on November 17 and demonstrated the fruits of the "Peace and Friendship 2018" joint military drill among China, Malaysia and Thailand. The activity was intended to improve Hong Kong citizens’ understanding of national defense and military and enhance communication between the military and the people from all walks of life in Hong Kong.
Tian Yongjiang, Deputy Commander of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, said in the welcome speech that this Open Day is the second chance following the August 1st Army Day Reception to consolidate the close military-civilian friendship with people from all walks of life in Hong Kong. It aims to further enhance communication and deepen relations between the PLA HK Garrison and HK citizens.
During the Open Day event, four special activities were arranged at its San Wai Barracks and Tai Ling Firing Range, based on the fruits of "Peace and Friendship 2018" joint military drill.
The Open Day kicked off at 9:30 am on November 17. The documentary of the "Peace and Friendship 2018" joint military drill was first shown to visitors and amazed them with numerous incredible moments of the exercise.
Afterwards, visitors watched such course performances as grappling and wrestling, and armed escort in the Parade Platz.
Later on, visitors were bound for the Tai Ling Firing Range to observe some fruits of the "Peace and Friendship 2018" joint military drill. A series of wonderful demonstrations, including pistol shooting, shooting under obstacle circumstances, special sniping, and clearing operations by special operations squad, brought the atmosphere to climax for many times.
Lieutenant Gao Junjie, head of special sniping in the PLA Hong Kong Garrison who attended the joint military drill in Malaysia, told media that he has learned a lot of professional knowledge in the ten-day drill and developed deep friendships with officers and soldiers from Malaysia and Thailand.
Attendance also include Tung Chee-hwa (Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), Leung Chun-ying (Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), Matthew Cheung (Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Wang Zhimin (Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), and Xie Feng (Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) as well as over 300 representatives from Hong Kong's political and business circle, social groups, schools, and villages near the military barracks.
