BEIJING, Dec. 27 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan met with the visiting Afghan Minister of Defense Tariq Shah Bahrami in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon.
Chang said China and Afghanistan are close and friendly neighbors with profound traditional friendship. In recent years, the two countries have maintained high-level contact and close economic and trade exchanges, particularly, a series of important consensuses reached by President Xi Jinping and his Afgan counterpart Ashraf Ghani have pointed out the direction for the development of state and military relations between the two countries, Chang said.
The Chinese military is ready to work with Afghan military to comprehensively implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, deepen military relations and strengthen cooperation in anti-terrorism and security to maintain the security and stability of the two countries and the region and enrich the connotation of the China-Afghanistan strategic partnership of cooperation, said Chang.
Bahrami said that Afghanistan and Afghan military have maintained friendly cooperative relations with China and the Chinese military for a long time, Afghanistan cherishes its traditional friendship with China and is willing to make joint efforts to push the relations between the two countries and the two militaries to a new height.
Before their meeting, Chang held a welcome ceremony for Bahrami and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
