China holds press conference on 7th CISM Military World Games

WUHAN, Nov. 24 (ChinaMil) -- China's Ministry of National Defense held a special press conference on the 7th CISM Military World Games in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei province, on November 24, 2017.

During the press conference, it announced the time of the games, events, competition schedule, progress on preparation, venue construction and overall support. The emblem, mascot and slogan of the 7th CISM Military World Games were also unveiled and the official website launched on the same day.

The Military World Games is a comprehensive sports event initiated by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

Being the largest military sports organization in the world, the CISM was founded in 1948 with 136 member nations today and its tenet is "Friendship through Sport". In 1995, the CISM decided to hold the first Military World Games to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the victory of the WWII and the founding of the UN, and the games have been held every four years since then.

The Military World Games last about 10 days with about 20 competition events and 8,000 or so in-service military participants from more than 100 countries. Known as the "military Olympic Games", it is an important platform for militaries from around the world to demonstrate their power and image, deepen friendly exchange and expand international influence in peacetime.

According to Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for the MND, the 7th CISM Military World Games will be held from October 18 to 27, 2019 in Wuhan, with 329 competition events under 27 categories.

Wu said the games in Wuhan will be an international event with great significance and far-reaching influence. China will take this opportunity to strengthen the friendly communication with foreign militaries and make new contributions to boosting CISM's development and building a community of shared future for humankind.

The event logo was unveiled and the official website was launched at the press conference as well.

Mr. Abdulhakeem Al-Shino, president of CISM, Li Huohui, vice chairman and secretary general of the organizing committee of Wuhan Military World Games and director of the Training Management Department of the Central Military Commission, Wang Xiaodong, vice chairman of the organizing committee and governor of Hubei province, and Huang Xueping, deputy director of the CMC International Military Cooperation Office, jointly unveiled the emblem and mascot of the games.

Dorah Mamby Koita, secretary general of CISM, Yang Jian, director of the Wuhan Military World Games executive committee and deputy director of the CMC Training Management Department, Guo Shenglian, member of the organizing committee and vice governor of Hubei province, and Wan Yong, director of the executive committee and mayor of Wuhan, jointly launched the official website of the games.

 

It is learnt that the emblem of the 7th CISM Military World Games, which is called the "bond of peace and friendship", consists of elements including the five-pointed star, ribbon, the number 7 and peace pigeon, symbolizing China's wish to deliver the message of peaceful development to the international community through this games.

The mascot named Bing Bing is designed with Chinese sturgeon, a level-1 protected wild animal in China that's reputed as the "panda in water" and "living fossil in water", as the prototype.

The slogan "glory of soldiers, peace for the world" fully reflects CISM's tenet of "Friendship through Sport" and expresses the common wish of the host country and military athletes from around the world to "Share Friendship, Promote Peace".

The official website of the 7th CISM Military World Games, www.wuhan2019mwg.cn, will release authoritative information about the games in a timely manner in Chinese, English and French.
