Chinese military keeps close watch on tensions in northern Myanmar

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (ChinaMil) -- China's military pays close attention to the development of situations in the northern region of Myanmar, and hopes that both sides in the conflict can remain calm and restraint, so as to avoid further escalation of the situation and occurrence of any incident which will harm Chinese national sovereignty and security, said the Information Bureau of China's Defense Ministry on Sunday.

The bureau made the above remarks when asked by reporters to confirm media reports that armed conflicts happened in many places in northern Myanmar on Nov. 20, there were stray bullets falling into the territory of China and a large number of Burmese refugees streamed into China-Myanmar border area.

China's military is keeping high alert and taking necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and protect safety of lives and properties of the Chinese people inhabiting in the border area, the bureau stated.
