BEIJING, Dec. 29 (ChinaMil) -- Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Xu Qiliang met with the visiting Afghan Minister of Defense Tariq Shah Bahrami in Beijing on Thursday.
Xu said Afghanistan is China's good neighbor and trusted friend, in recent years, bilateral relations have maintained a good momentum of development with increasingly close high-level exchanges and continuously enhanced strategic communication.
A series of important consensuses reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani have pointed out the direction for the development of relations between the two countries and their militaries, Xu said.
China supports the peace reconstruction and reconciliation process of Afghanistan and will actively participate in international aid efforts in Afghanistan, Xu added.
As an important part of China-Afghan relations, the military-to-military relations between the two countries have witnessed steady growth in recent years, the Chinese military is willing to work with the Afghan military to comprehensively implement the important consensus reached by heads of state of the two countries, strengthen pragmatic cooperation in areas of military exchange and anti-terrorism, and safeguard the security of the two countries and the region, making contributions to the development of China-Afghanistan strategic partnership of cooperation, Xu continued.
Xu also briefed Bahrami on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Bahrami expressed his congratulations on the successful holding of the 19th CPC National Congress. He said Afghanistan and China have always been friendly neighbors with a profound traditional bond, Afghanistan attaches great importance to relations between the two countries and the two militaries, and resolutely adheres to the one-China policy.
The Afghan side is willing to work with the Chinese side to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields including anti-terrorism operations, and push forward the state and military relations between the two countries, Bahrami said.
