Troops and reservists rush to earthquake relief in Yunnan

ZHAOTONG, Feb. 9 (ChinaMil) -- A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit Ludian County (27°07'N, 103°36'E) in southwest China's Yunnan Province at 7:11 p.m. on Feb. 8, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
As results of the earthquake, the Tianshengqiao section of the highway from Zhaotong City to Qiaojia County was interrupted by rolling stones and landslides, a number of houses were damaged, and two villagers in the Longtoushan Town of the Ludian county were injuried.
The Yunnan Provincial Military Command sent PLA troops and militiamen to the affected area for rescue soon after the earthquake.
At press time, the Zhaotong military subcommand attached to the Yunnan Provincial Military Command has sent over 200 soldiers and militiamen to the epicenter area to carry out relief work. They have entered villages to conduct house-to-house check of damage conditions, eliminate hidden dangers, evacuate and resettle earthquake victims.
Additionally, the militia emergency forces totaling 500 persons from the nearby counties have received orders to get ready and make preparation for the quake rescue at any time.
