19th Chinese naval escort taskforce visits Turkey

  ISTANBUL, May 25 (ChinaMil) -- The 19th naval escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), which is made up of the guided-missile frigates Linyi and Weifang and the comprehensive supply ship Weishanhu, arrived at the Sarayburnu in Istanbul, Turkey on the morning of May 24, 2015 and started a 5-day friendly port visit to Turkey.

  It is learnt that this is the third time that Chinese naval vessels visited Turkey. The Turkish Navy held a grand welcome ceremony at the dock. Yu Hongyang, China's ambassador to Turkey, greeted the Chinese naval taskforce at the dock with consulate staff and representatives of China-funded enterprises as well as overseas Chinese.

  During the visit, leaders of the Chinese naval taskforce will pay official calls to the local leaders of Istanbul and commander of the Turkish Northern Sea Area Command. Representatives of Chinese officers and sailors will also participate in the welcome reception held by the Turkish Navy, visit the Turkish Naval Academy and play friendly basketball games with their Turkish peers.

  The 19th Chinese escort taskforce set sail from Qingdao on Dec. 2 last year. During the almost 6-month period, the taskforce completed the escort tasks in Gulf of Aden, evacuated the Chinese and foreigners from the Republic of Yemen, and accomplished the "Naval Interaction-2015 (I)" China-Russia joint maritime exercise.
