BEIJING, March 27 (ChinaMil) -- China urges U.S. to stop arm sales to Taiwan, a defense ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Geng Yansheng, spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), said at a regular press conference on March 27, 2014 that the year of 2014 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S., both sides should continue to make joint efforts in establishing a new major power relationship and a new military-to-military relationship, and the U.S. side should take concrete actions to safeguard the whole situation of the China-U.S. relationship and the peaceful development of cross-straits relations.

However, the U.S. side’s arm sales to Taiwan do harms to the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

Geng emphasized that we urge the U.S. side to adhere faithfully to the one-China policy and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués issued by the two sides in 1972, 1979 and 1982, and stop arm sales to Taiwan immediately.
