6th batch of Chinese peacekeepers to Sudan return home

At 09:00 on July 28, as the Airbus A330 passenger aircraft carrying 215 Chinese peacekeepers landed at the Xinzheng International Airport in Zhengzhou, capital city of central China’s Henan Province, all the officers and men of the 6th Chinese peacekeeping detachment to Sudan returned home.
Dispatched by the Jinan Military Area Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the 435 officers and men of the 6th Chinese peacekeeping detachment to Wau, Sudan, accomplished all the missions entrusted by the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) with flying colors during their nine-month-long mission implementation period. Each of the peacekeepers won the UN Peace Medal. The engineer, transportation and medical elements as well as 14 individuals won the UN "Special Contribution Award". During the peacekeeping period, Xie Baojun, a young soldier of the engineer element, sacrificed his life.
During its stay in Sudan, the engineer element deployed its troops at five places in succession and accomplished 200-odd engineering tasks assigned by the UNMIS. The transportation element called out various types of vehicles and equipment for 9,100-odd times in the aggregate and safely drove 252 thousand kilometers. The medical element offered treatment to 1,268 patients, performed 21 operations, rescued 8 critically ill and wounded persons and provided technical support for the civilian and charity hospitals in the area where they were stationed for 10-odd times without any medical mistake and medical grade accident.
Earlier on 219 officers and men of the first echelon of the 6th Chinese peacekeeping detachment to Sudan returned home on July 20.
