18th Chinese escort taskforce visits France

  TOULON, February 10 (ChinaMil) -- The amphibious dock landing ship "Changbaishan", the guided missile frigate "Yuncheng" and the comprehensive supply ship "Chaohu" of the 18th escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) were piloted by the frigate "Commandant Birot" of the French Navy to enter the naval port in Toulon of France on the morning of February 9, 2015 for the 4-day-long goodwill visit to France.

  Zhai Jun, Chinese ambassador to France, Zhong Qi, Chinese military attaché to France, as well as staff from the Chinese Embassy in France and relevant personnel from the French military went to the port to welcome the taskforce.

  During the taskforce's visit to France, Zhang Chuanshu, commanding officer of the 18th Chinese naval escort taskforce, will call on senior military and civil officials from the French side, including Yann Tainguy, commander of the Mediterranean Sea Area of the French Navy, and Hubert Falco, mayor of Toulon city, according to sources.

  In addition, the officers and men of the 18th Chinese naval escort taskforce and those from the French Navy will hold activities including visiting each other’s warships, exchanging anti-piracy and escort experience and holding friendly sports tournaments, and the warships of the 18th Chinese naval taskforce and those from the French Navy will also hold a maritime joint drill in the sea area near the Toulon port.

  This is the PLA Navy' 4th visit to France and also the 4th country of the 18th Chinese naval escort taskforce's visit to five European countries after its visits to UK, Germany and the Netherlands. The taskforce will visit Greece after its visit to France.
