Chinese Navy Commander meets with Chilean counterpart

BEIJING, September 7 (ChinaMil) -- Admiral Wu Shengli, member of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) and commander of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with Admiral Enrique Larrañaga, the visiting Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Navy, in Beijing on September 5.

Admiral Wu Shengli pointed out that China and Chile have a long history of friendly relations and the military relations between the two sides have maintained good momentum of development.

The development of "mutual trust, comprehensive, sustainable and win-win" relationship between the two navies have very important practical significance to strategic mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation and common development, said Admiral Wu Shengli.

Wu said that China and Chile are all important countries of the Pacific Rim, and he hopes that the two navies can further enhance high-level exchanges, make full use of bilateral and multilateral occasions to conduct timely and effective communication on pragmatic cooperation.

Wu said that the two navies should work together to further unleash the potential of mutual ship visits, effectively raise the ship visits' effectiveness and especially strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the training field of tall ships.

Wu also hopes that the two navies can further increase cadet exchanges, carry out regular mutual visits between colleges, and organize teaching observation and professional seminars.

The two sides should also deepen communication in medicine and organize professional forces to jointly perform tasks of medical services and conduct related training exercises, said Wu.

Admiral Enrique Larrañaga said that Chile always attaches great importance to the friendly relations with the Chinese Navy and he hopes that the two navies can continue to strengthen pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in all areas at all levels, enhance mutual trust and promote the sound and healthy development of bilateral relations.

Admiral Enrique Larrañaga and his entourage will also visit the East China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy and Chinese naval ships.
