7th China-India defense and security consultation kicks off in Beijing

  BEIJING, April 10 (ChinaMil) -- The 7th China-India defense and security consultation was held in Beijing on the afternoon of April 10. Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and the Indian Defense Secretary Shri R.K. Mathur co-chaired the consultation.

  The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on regional security situation, relations between the two nations and the two militaries as well as other issues of common concern, making an agreement that the consultation mechanism plays a positive role in strengthening mutual trust and promoting cooperation.

  Sun said that China and India have extensive common interests in the international and regional affairs, hence, the Chinese military is willing to make joint efforts with the Indian side to firmly implement the consensus on developing Sino-Indian bilateral relations reached by the two heads of state, properly manage and control divergence and maintain peace and stability in the border areas of China and India.

  It is hoped that the Chinese and Indian militaries will strengthen mutual trust, develop friendship and promote cooperation, so as to make continuous contributions to the sustainable and stable development of  relations between the two countries, Sun added.

  In response, Mathur said that India is willing to constantly strengthen defense dialogue and communication with China to boost mutual understanding and trust. He also hoped both the Indian and Chinese militaries would take effective measures to jointly control the situations in the India-China border area so as to maintain peace and tranquility of the area.
