BEIJING, April 10 (ChinaMil) -- China's related activities in its islands and reefs are reasonable and legal and no country has the right to interfere, a spokesperson of the Information Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) said on Friday when answering a reporter's question.

During an official visit to Japan, the U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said that the U.S.-Japan security treaty is applicable to all areas under the Japanese administration and the U.S. opposes any unilateral coercive action that seeks to undermine Japan's administration of the Diaoyu Islands.

Carter also expressed concerns over China's construction in the islands and reefs of South China Sea. He said that some Chinese activities have intensified the militarization in the islands and reefs of South China Sea and escalated regional tension, and it is inconsistent with China's commitment to the ASEAN.

With regard to Ash Carter's remarks, a spokesperson of the Information Affairs Bureau of China's Defense Ministry responded on Friday that the fact that the Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated islands are China's inherent territory since ancient times will not change for anyone's remarks, and the determination and will of China's government and military to safeguard its territorial sovereignty is unswerving.

The spokesperson also pointed out that the U.S.-Japan alliance, as a bilateral arrangement made during the Cold War, should not target any third party or damage regional peace and stability.

China's stance on the South China Sea issue is consistent and clear. The related activities carried out by China in its islands and reefs are reasonable and legal and other countries have no right to interfere. The United States should stop making irresponsible remarks and doing activities that could sow discord among other countries and create tensions, the spokesperson stressed.

The current China-U.S. military relations enjoy sound development momentum and the two sides are devoting themselves to building new type of military relations. China urges the U.S. side to speak and act cautiously to create a good condition for healthy and stable development of relations between the two countries and two militaries, the spokesperson added.
