China, Saudi Arabia vow to strengthen military ties

  BEIJING, November 18 (ChinaMil) – Wang Ning, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), met with Eid bin Awad Al-Shalawi, commander of the Saudi Arabian Army, and his party in Beijing on the morning of November 17, 2014.

  Wang Ning said although China and Saudi Arabia are thousands of kilometers away in distance, the people of the two countries have been enjoying a long friendship. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Saudi Arabia, the relations between the two countries have been developing comprehensively and rapidly through the promotion by the leaders of the two countries.

  Wang Ning stressed that military cooperation is an important cornerstone of the relations between the two countries. In recent years, the two militaries of China and Saudi Arabia have carried out frequent mutual visits, and the two sides have been constantly deepening the pragmatic cooperation in the fields of professional technologies and personnel training.

  The Chinese side is willing to further expand the field of cooperation and deepen the connotation of cooperation, so as to jointly push forward the friendly cooperative relations between the two militaries towards a new stage, Wang Ning said.

  Al-Shalawi said that the relations between Saudi Arabia and China are solid and firm, and the cooperation between the two militaries is fruitful. The Saudi Arabian military attaches importance to strengthening the exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese military in defense and military fields and hopes to further deepen the friendly relations between the two militaries.

  Al-Shalawi will also attend the 5th Xiangshan Forum, a biennial event hosted by the China Military Science Society (CMSS) to promote exchanges of opinions among defense scholars from around the world, to be held in Beijing from November 20 to 22, 2014.
