Chinese naval taskforce visits Iran

  BANDAR ABBAS PORT, September 22 (ChinaMil) -- The guided missile destroyer "Changchun" and the guided missile frigate "Changzhou" of the 17th escort taskforce of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) arrived at the Bandar Abbas port of Iran for a five-day goodwill visit at 08:00 on September 20, 2014, local time.

  This is the first time for the PLAN taskforce to visit Iran.

  Guided by the guided missile frigate "Alvand" of the Iranian Navy, the two warships of the 17th escort taskforce of the PLAN docked at the Bandar Abbas port on the morning of September 20, 2014.

  More than 100 people came to the port to welcome the Chinese naval escort taskforce, including CaptainTajipa, chief of staff of the First Coastal Defense Area of the Iranian Navy, representatives from the Iranian Navy, Pang Sen, Chinese ambassador to Iran, Huang Qin, Chinese military attaché to Iran, and staff from the Chinese embassy in Iran.

  The Iranian Navy held a grand welcoming ceremony for the Chinese naval taskforce, at which Captain Tajipa and Chinese Commanding Officer Rear Admiral Huang Xinjian respectively delivered speeches.

  Huang Xinjian noted that the Chinese PLAN visited Iran for the purpose of promoting peace and amity, strengthening mutual understanding and mutual trust, and deepening the friendly relations between the Chinese and Iranian militaries, especially between the two navies.

  He believed that the in-depth and extensive mutual learning and exchange between the officers and men of the two navies will definitely push forward the friendly and cooperative relations between the two navies.

  It is learnt that the commanding officer of the PLAN taskforce and his party will meet with commander of the First Coastal Defense Area of the Iranian Navy, commander of Iran's Southern Fleet and officials of the Hormozgan Province during the visit.

  The two sides will also hold deck receptions and welcome visitors to aboard the naval vessels.

  A series of cultural and sport activities will also be held between the Chinese and Iranian naval officers and men, such as football friendly match, table tennis friendly match and tug-of-war match.
