17th and 18th Chinese escort taskforces meet in Gulf of Aden

  GULF OF ADEN, August 20 (ChinaMil) -- The 18th Chinese naval escort taskforce, which is made up of the amphibious landing ship "Changbaishan", the guided missile frigate "Yuncheng" and three shipborne helicopters, met the 17th escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in the waters west to the Gulf of Aden at 06:00 on August 19, 2014, local time, after the 18-day voyage. The two escort taskforces began to jointly perform the 749th and 750th escort missions.

  The 18th Chinese naval escort taskforce set sail from Zhanjiang on August 1, 2014. The two taskforces used flag signals to greet each other after they met. Commander Huang Xinjian and Political Commissar Fu Yaoquan of the 17th naval escort taskforce and Commander Zhang Chuanshu and Political Commissar Zhou Minggui of the 18th naval escort taskforce sent messages of regards to each other.

  The two escort taskforces met the escorted merchant ships and jointly started the 749th escort mission at 09:00 in an escort formation. During the escort, the "Changchun" and "Changbaishan" warships dispatched their shipborne helicopters to conduct air patrol.

  The 17th and 18th naval escort taskforces will conduct mission-handover on August 23, and the "Chaohu" warship under the 17th escort taskforce will continue its escort mission with the 18th escort taskforce.
