Due to the special location of the coastal defense troops and with the extension of operation space and the change of operational patterns under information-based conditions, the modern coastal defense operation puts forward new and higher requirements on the construction of weapons and equipment system. Gui Hengshan, PLA delegate to the National People’s Congress (NPC)and deputy director of the Armament Department of the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), said that the coastal defense troops should establish an integrated equipment system in defense and control by relying on modern technological means.

　　According to Gui Hengshan, it is the priority to adjust and improve the weapons and equipment system of the coastal defense troops, and enable the system to keep close to the requirement of the tasks shouldered by the coastal defense troops, so as to further improve the capability of the troops in implementing tasks.

　　It is also imperative to construct a new equipment support model for the coastal defense troops, establish a reasonable material storage model and arrangement structure, do a good job in the transformation of modularization, integration and maneuverability for maintenance equipment and establish an equipment force system with mobile support as the supplement, Gui Hengshan continued.

　　Gui Hengshan specially noted that it was necessary to further speed up the advance of the information-based equipment construction of the coastal defense troops. It is imperative to carry out information-based rebuilding of the existing equipment on one hand and construct an integrated command and control platform on the other hand, do a good job in the integration of information modules of the existing equipment, and establish and improve a sharing mechanism for the resources and information among the army, police and people.
