Shown in the photo above is a scene that Wang Liangbin, the battalion commander, is briefing the reporters on the current situation.
On the morning of January 27, a 35-member journalist delegation from 12 Italian media came to the “Blue Line” to interview the 6th batch of Chinese peacekeeping engineers to Lebanon engaged in mine-sweeping.
The Italian journalist delegation came to a mine-sweeping site of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer battalion. The Chinese officers and men had been working at the site for 7 days in a row to erect boundary markers around the Israeli technical fence in a bid to open a safe passage. Due to the large number of the landmines and a considerable amount of shrapnel in the land mine area as well as many signal sources yet to be clarified, the mine-sweeping operation progressed slowly.
A reporter with LA 7 asked the mine-sweeper named Liu Zhengping: “It’s said that mine-sweeping is dangerous. Don’t you dread that?”
Liu Zhengping answered smilingly: “Indeed, mine-sweeping is highly risky. But we have a good command of mine-sweeping skills and scientific methods, so there’s no risk if the standard operational procedure is followed.”
“It’s the 3rd time for him to participate in the peacekeeping mine-sweeping mission. Young as he is, he has swept nearly 1,000 land mines and un-exploded shells!” added Wang Liangbin, commander of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer battalion. At such additional information the reporter was even more amazed.
Then, the reporter said candidly: “The military parade in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China last year impressed me that Chinese servicemen are remarkable. I’m honored to interview the Chinese servicemen today who are evidently confident and candid.”
