The reporters noticed on the winter training site of a motorized infantry division of the PLA Shenyang Military Area Command that whenever encountering a problem, the commanding officers at all levels of the division would start their computers and visit the “database for combat and training in frigid area” for refer to relevant data and find solutions.
In the database, the reporters saw that under such four main modules as combat data, training data, decision-making support and material searching, there are a total of 286 parameters in 5 major categories on the technological and tactical performance of personnel and equipment in the frigid area. Therefore, information on the likely influence of low temperature, ice and snow on personnel and equipment, pragmatic protective means and countermeasures can be retrieved and consulted, and statistics and analysis on various factors bearing on combat effectiveness can be made in the database.
Li Qiang, deputy director of the artillery command of the division who was in charge of the research and development of the database told the reporters that they made meticulous analysis on the data collected, earnestly sorted out and summed up the achievements obtained by the troops in long-distance maneuver and field protection under frigid conditions in recent years before making deliberate analysis and scientific calculations, carried out pertinent decoding study and systematic programming by taking into consideration of the major and difficult problems in the winter training process, successfully tackling dozens of tactical and technological difficulties restricting the generation of battle effectiveness.
It is said that the databases distributed to each regiment of the division are inter-linked into a system and the new data created in the training practice can be collected together and renewed as soon as possible in the system, realizing the synchronic sharing of data among all the regiments.
