Since the dawn of the new century, with the requirements of army building in mind, the Third Military Medical University (MMU) has initiated the establishment of such national key subjects as burn medicine and medical protection against nuclear and chemical weapons, laying the foundation for the development of war injury medicine.

　　In the meantime, the Third MMU actively adapts itself to the change of the combat forms of high-tech war and the expansion of military medical science theoretic system. It has built up 19 new subjects on military medicine including military preventive medicine, internal medicine for field operation and protection science against the injury from new concept weaponry and a number of frontier subjects including genomics and proteomics as well as a multiple of inter-disciplinary subjects, such as system-biology and nano-biology.

　　By drawing on the relevant research achievements at home and abroad, the Third MMU has put forward and realized the notion of a modern subject system of military medicine including 36 subjects under 6 major subject groups including special military science, military medicine for joint logistics, military preventive medicine and military clinical medicine.

　　The Third MMU has also established the only national key lab of war injury medicine, the base for the treatment of war injury and recovery training, the training base of military preventive medicine, the military health education center, the demonstration base of injury nursing, the simulated medical training center, the training base for health train personnel and the evaluation center of the destruction capacity and biological effect of weapons.

　　The development of mine-sweeping protective device, amphibious armored ambulance and health train by the Third MMU has redressed the lack of China’s medical service support equipment.
