CIISS marks 30th anniversary

  The China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) held a commemoration meeting on the morning of April 9 in Beijing to mark its 30th anniversary of founding. Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of general staff of the PLA, attended and addressed the meeting.

  In his speech, Chen Bingde fully affirmed the achievements obtained by the CIISS in the past years and spoke highly of the CIISS' positive contributions to national security and economic construction of China. He hoped that the CIISS could constantly enhance its study ability and academic level, present more pertinent and authoritative high-level research reports, and put forward more proposals and suggestions so as to make greater contribution to national security and development.

  Xiong Guangkai, chairman of the CIISS, said in his speech that the CIISS had been attaching importance to studying international and regional strategy and security situation since its founding 30 years ago, and has established and maintained academic exchange relations with more than 100 international strategic study institutions of 50-odd countries.

  The China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) was established in October 1979. Its original name was the Beijing Institute for International Strategic Studies (BIISS). It began to use the current name in 1992.
